Montarels Chardonnay Futs De Chene 2003 Cotes De Thongue, France £14.95
Domaine des montarels is very Burgunian in style with lashings of new French oak, plenty of Malolactic fermentation and battonage, backed up by good crisp acidity, very ripe fruit and a long finish. Great balance and value.
N.B. Trophy winner at the world Chardonnay Championships!
Chateau Buisson-
The 41 hectare single block of estate, owned by the seze family since 1918, has parcels sited within Fronsac and other St. Emillion satellites. 60% Merlot & 40% Cabernet Franc gives this Claret bags of Redcurrant & Cherry aromas, with a darker powerful palate & soft tannins.
Cousino-
Cambernet Sauvignon 2004 maipo, chile £18.95
Founded in 1863bthe estate released the first vintage of Antiguas Reservas in 1927 to showcase the very best fruit. It opens up to reveal compelx layers of Blackberry, Blackcurrant, Mocha, Tea, Tobacco Leaf, Dried Herbs and Toasty Oak. A fabulous example of what is achievable in Chile.
Sevenhill Shiraz 2002 Clare Valley, South Australia £22.95
A rich wine with hints of Chocolate and Liquorice under a layer of Plum and a background of pepper. It finishes with soft Tannins, Vanillian oak and great length. Made from selected parcels of grapes including the 80 and 130+ year old vives from thr Jacob and the schreiner vineyards! Huge concentration but not jammy – blows away everything in its class, frankly sublime. PS It’s also made by monks who support charitable foundations across Australasia.
Chablis 1 er Cru Van-
A real rarity this. Proper Chablis that has classic minerality and compexity, yet is full and has rich ripe fruit with crisp acidity. They said it couldn’t be done. If you’ve been disappointed by Chablis lately splash out and your confidence will be restored.
Sierra Cantabria Rioja Cuvee Especial 2002 £25.95
Pure, low yielding old vine Tempranillo, rigousous selection of the finest bunches and 14 months in French and American Oak. Gran Reserva fruits but without the extended oak aging, leaves it fresh and vibrant, complex and concentrated. It’s Rioja Jim, but not as we know it! Good with Game and Cheese, but best with Steaks and Roasts.
